003 / Clothing brand
Crackshack
An alternative hand-made clothing brand. Every garment is one of one, so the site is built like a field document.
The problem
Hand-made clothing sold through a standard shop template looks like drop-shipping. Uniform product grids, white backgrounds and polite typography flatten the exact thing people are paying for — that one person cut, bleached and distressed this specific piece, and it exists once.
The brand's whole position is hand labour over mass manufacturing, so the site had to look made by hand to match it.
The approach
Design it as documentation. Oversized condensed capitals, monospaced technical labels, hard rules between sections and a faint blueprint pattern behind the type — it reads like a specification sheet.
Items are catalogued. Each is marked by what it actually is — 1-of-1 unit, physical media — so scarcity reads as a plain fact. Japanese runs alongside the English as a second voice in the layout, part of how the brand speaks.
Strictly monochrome throughout, which leaves the garments holding all the colour on the page.
Details
- Editorial catalogue layout — every item gets its own space on the page.
- Condensed display type paired with monospaced metadata, carrying the branding on its own.
- Blueprint line-work drawn in CSS, so the atmosphere ships as a few bytes.
- An ethos section that states the process plainly — hand-worked, small batch, direct dispatch.
- Hand-written HTML and CSS, kept clean of builders and tracking scripts.
Outcome
A storefront that reads as a brand with a position, which is the honest description of what it sells.
