The problem

Photography sites tend to fight the work they're showing. Thumbnail grids shrink the images, lightboxes add furniture, and the interface ends up more visible than the photographs.

The approach

Give each image room and let the pace do the work. Photographs run large, sometimes full-bleed, with enough space around them that the eye settles before the next one arrives. The navigation is a short list of words, set small — the interface stays out of the way.

Typography carries the identity: the name set at a scale that reads as a title page, not a header. On a phone the composition is rebuilt — the type reflows above the image instead of shrinking on top of it.

Details

  • Full-bleed image sequencing with deliberate vertical rhythm.
  • Type-led navigation — words, not icons or a hamburger menu.
  • Images sized per breakpoint so phones don't download desktop files.
  • Separate mobile composition, rebuilt for the smaller screen.

Status

Design and build are complete and live. Final photographs and copy are being supplied by the client, so the site online is the finished framework waiting on its content — the structure, pacing and responsive behaviour are all in place.
